How to unlock a phone
#1
Just bought a new ipoh but it's locked to Rogers, but I was told it was unlocked and unlocking is expensive and after I still need to pay for the new plan. If any of you in your infinite wisdom could help me solve this dilemma I would be very grateful

Most of the time, the unlocking depends on the company which it is locked to, you should probably call them and ask them.

You can Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone yourself, instead of paying someone 100s of dollars to do so. Also, beware of some scams on the internet that claim to Unlock you iPhone remotely; and ask you sensitive information like IMEI number, etc...

It takes more then just Jailbreaking to unlock it. If you want to do it free it's got to be on a certain Firmware version. And honestly I don't think anybody is doing it anymore since now a lot of places can get you whitelisted and factory unlocked. There are some youtubers like EverythingApplePro that for a fee depending on the company can get you factory unlocked. If somebody is actually charging you 100s of dollars then you're either being troll'ed or your being troll'ed. I know for AT&T you can get it done for about $35.

There was a bill passed in the Senate that made unlocking your phone legal and it was passed but now it needs to be given the Obama stamp to go thru. This of course if you live in the states.

If I were you I would have contacted the guy that sold it to you and talk to him. Also you should have put your sim card in it to see if it was unlocked or not. If you didn't have a Micro Sim just ask a friend or have them go to the store you have service with and ask them to test it. Never just assume just cause somebody says it's unlocked that it's unlocked.

You can but unless you have service with them it's by there own choice if they want to or not. There's no gain in doing so and most of them really don't want you to as they want you to use there service. Hopefully this bill with be passed by Obama and you won't have to worry about it anymore. It's just another way of them keeping you in their circle.

I just found out the Obama passed the law to make unlocking your phone legal. That of course is if you live in the USA. However there is still a fee to be paid and depending on what carrier the phone is locked with will depend on how much you will pay from the provider.
