Piratebay issues

Hi...I'm unable to upload any torrent at all... Have been getting Cloudflare error:  504 Gateway timeout..

However based on their support page, there is no cloudfare-nix, so its comming from TPB as a cause...

What can i do about this?  Testing at different times didn't help, neither did "uploading" from account page link.

How can i get my torrents up ?

Also, sometimes getting the "Error,, File empty"

That generally means the .torrent file you are trying to upload is too large, causing the process to time out.

Try recreating the torrent with larger piece sizes, or split the torrent into smaller torrents, or rar the files.

i assume your talking about the content itself.

is there a size i should work to to stay under "content combined can be no larger than x" ? simply because i could be trial and erroring 'in all day.

Doesn't need to be exact, just a estimate.

I don't think Transmission would allow user to adjust pieces, so archive will be the better option.

Use a better client like Deluge, make the piece size 16 MB which is the max. The resulting .torrent file size is the problem not the amount of gigs of data in the torrent. The size of the .torrent file is determined by piece size and the number of files/folders that make up the data as Sid alluded to. I have been able to upload 35+ gigs of music in a single torrent with a 16MB piece size. If you're trying to upload a bunch of .jpg's or something that has a lot of files and folders you might not be able to make the .torrent file small enough without archiving it. I forget the cut off size for .torrent files but it's fairly generous assuming you use a proper piece size. I would only archive as an absolute last resort because it looks shady and no one with common sense downloads .rars off TPB. Best to do multiple, smaller torrents in that case.

No I was talking about the .torrent file, that is why I said .torrent file.

There is no specific size, the number of files within the torrent is also a factor, but if it's under 100kB you should be fine.

Sorry if I was unclear, I wasn't contradicting what you said I was trying to explain more fully (he seemed confused not you) and offer an alternative client.

No worries. I wasn't actually replying to your reply, rather to the OP who had quoted me. And having just re-read, nothing either of us has said contradicts the other anyway.

It is a genuinely confusing issue. I remember a couple of years ago I did some tests to try to figure out the limits and I was able to upload a 2MB .torrent file (iirc; I certainly remember it was way way way larger than I expected to be able to upload) file of a single content file.

So it's a complex mix of .torrent file size, numbers of content files, and size of pieces. And on top of that it likely varies somewhat from minute-to-minute depending upon server/bandwidth load.

Ahh, makes sense now I did think you were responding to my comment. Everything's about me right?? Haha, I may be a narcissist but at least I'm not running a nuclear armed superpower.

And yeah, it is quite confusing. Especially for new uploaders. I uploaded for years without ever knowing what piece size was. I learned the hard way when I was trying to upload 30 gig vinyl packs.

Additionally, the description you enter adds to the total package, so if you are using a lot of words, maybe try with less, or none at all and have it edited back in.
