Hillbillys in a Haunted House (blu-ray upgrade)
#1
Spoopy season continues with a couple hillbillys, a couple horror legends, and a REALLY strung out Merle Haggard doing a bad pantomime. Thats right, Rifftrax left in most of the "comedy" of the movie but cut about 22 minutes of jaunty tunes including a very long outro concert with our stars, a mid-movie Merle Haggard number, and more The Cat Came Back.

If you thought this movie was bafflingly stupid, you'll be even more mystified to learn that this is a SEQUEL to another hillbilly movie where Mamie Van Doren played Boots and Jayne Mansfield played Jeepers (not 100% sure of that last one, I skimmed the credits pretty fast). I assume the smashing success of The Las Vegas Hillbillys is what allowed Woolner Brothers to spend half the sequel's budget to secure talent like John Carradine, Lon Cheney and Basil Rathbone... so luckily the budget was only $250 because man this movie stinks. Enjoy!

Being a fan of real Country music (and I'm actually in a Blues Hall of Fame) I had to seek out The Las Vegas Hillbillys. I found it here:  Las Vegas Hillbillys - 1966 ( VO ) on Vimeo and while the plot is paper-thin it does have Mamie and Jane plus some great actual 1960's musical performances. Bill Anderson in his pre-hairpiece days and Connie Smith are the real deal as are the rest of the performers on stage. I believe that's Webb Pierce's Pontiac with all the guns on it. Watch the riffed sequel for the laughs and the the first for the music.

Damn Billy, this one I never expected, who thought there was *profit* to be made off of an HD copy of Hillbillys? There's no way they are making that investment back. I mean, unless there's some secret HBitHH cult out there. Maybe die hard Joi Lansing fans exist? This is baffling.

I'm not a country music fan but for some reason I genuinely love this riff. It's just fun and The Cat Came Back is catchy af, I cannot lie. My thanks for putting this together and for adding the mystery of why this blu-ray exists to my life. Big Grin
