Is this file corrupted or not?

Hi

I have downloaded an avi file which plays a black screen with no audio and loads the timer as well (in divx player). I have tried playing it in other apps but it didn't work well. How do I know if the site I got it from just put an hour and a half black screened video just to make me download their wmp codec as well? or how do I know if the file is actually working but it only needs a different codec?
