is uploading a torrent you created of movie or game or otherwise that isn't yours illegal?

Yes it is illegal if your country has anti-piracy laws.
However listing your torrent on thepiratebay is not really illegal, as if you don't seed it no illegal content is distributed. What actually is illegal is to seed it on your torrent client.
You don't have to worry about your privacy on thepiratebay, just choose a username that you never used before, or upload anonymous torrents. Never give your name or whatever could get you found by authorities and you'il be fine. TPB never gives any IP adress or email to authorities.
If you want to seed anonymously on your torrent client, use a VPN. Then you'il be as hard to find as an experienced uploader.

when i looked this up it seemed that public trackers like this one were met with scorn, and only private trackers were thought of, as for the vpn, guess ifi use a free one it won't be very safe

Even private trackers aren't as safe as good VPNs (As you and me, and any government guy could register and use them)

I was wondering if creating a torrent, then uploading it, is worse? i guess? then just grabing a torrent or a magnet link and then sharing/uploading that

Grabbing an already seeded torrent will make you less visible to other peers if there are many (some will see you, others don't). Creating one will make you the only person seeding it for a while, so attracting more attention on you, yes.

Using seedbox also a good way since you don't even need any torrent client. All files are transferable between you and seedbox using FTP/SFTP method.
Also you can turn off your PC anytime since seedbox are do the seeding 24/7 for you except on maintenance.

how do i get a seed box, and the torrent now seems to be doing well enough without me. Hmmm what does it mean when it says peers (0)25, seeds (40)

To get a seedbox search for it on google and buy one that suits your needs. It means that the torrent has 25 peers (people downloading it) but you are connected to none of them, and that there are 40 seeds (people seeding the torrent, who have previously been peers until they finished downloading it)
