Looking for advice to play racing games

Hi,

I have a lot of racing games, but not a lot of experience.

Every time I start a race, I get ahead, but would crash and have the other racers get ahead of me!

How do I get through obstacles?

Depends on what kind of racing game, a realistic game like Gran turismo or a silly game like burnout. Just practice

True. I don't have the funds to get a steering wheel or a pedal, so I just use the controller.

I know there is a big difference between games like Gran Turismo and Super Mario Kart. It's much easier to stay ahead of the race in Super Mario Kart because of weapons you find when you drive over a question block. Gran Turismo or Juiced has no such thing.

try going around them instead of through them.

Try slowing down on turns

It would also help to research various racing techniques, like proper cornering and trail braking.

I always found the best way to play a racing game was to mimic how the computer players drive. How they corner, when the start to slow down etc...

Some games, like Forza, have the option of turning on a 'racing line' that shows the line you should take on the track, and when to brake/accelerate. That may help.
