Movie Sign with the Mads Podcast

Frank, Trace and Carolina had just moved the 'Movie Sign with the Mads' podcast over to Spotify...and then out of the blue, almost immediately canceled it!  Super weird but this also presented a BIG problem as it's not even available for download anywhere: it's completely exclusive to Spotify and now all episodes have been encrypted with Spotify's DRM.  It was about the 8th or 9th method I tried, but I got the entire library downloaded from Spotify minus their DRM!  And even got the MP3tags as cleaned up and uniform as I could for anything you'll be playing these on.  I also removed the bumpers promoting the Spotify move in the months of lead-up and tried to get every promo for other shows cut out as well before their podcast starts.  I always enjoyed this podcast.  Frank usually talks over people for about 60% of it with some pretty cool and obscure film knowledge, Carolina does about 30% of the talking and only Trace gets in about 10%...but he makes it really count!  They did everything from Citizen Kane to Battlefield Earth and I'm pretty sad to see it go.

MSWTM Podcast - 175 episodes (9GB)

If anyone wants 'Bill Corbett's Funhouse' uploaded too, just let me know...but that one is at least still available a bunch of different places unlike this one.

Great upload, thanks. I'm going to grab the Spotify episodes to finish off my collection.

I loved this podcast but didn't make the jump to Spotify because even though it was still free, I get irrationally annoyed at what I deem to be unnecessary hoop jumping. I didn't even know about the DRM to boot.

I also don't understand how walling yourself off like that is supposed to allow for new eyes/ears on your endeavor. I'd love to hear more about how all of this went down.

I hadn't made the jump yet either...was still trying to get in gear to do it when they canceled!  You make some great points.  Hopefully the guys will pop up in another, non-spotify audio form one day.  Fingers crossed!

Did they explain why it got cancelled ?

To be honest, I had already given up on it before they made the change because I got completely tired of Frank.

Also, just a question about Mike, besides '372 pages' and 'like trees walking', what was the other podcast Mike was on ? I simply can't remember...

Yeah, Frank can be pretty overpowering sometimes, haha.  I didn't know Mike was on any other podcast aside from '372 pages', actually!

I listened to it way back when, but I honestly got tired of the fact that neither Frank nor Trace seemed to understand a lot of the movies they were watching. It never felt like the Mads were doing it, it was just a movie review podcast by people who liked to talk about the 70s.

I also read somewhere that the writer of what I read was annoyed by the girl always interrupting Frank and Trace and acting like a know it all. I will have to give it a listen to form my own opinion Big Grin

I noticed that some of the movies have the release year included in the file name. I wanted to suggest adding this for a handful of additional specific movies to help disambiguate them from remakes, reboot series, similarly titled movies, etc. these are the ones I noticed, with release year added:

Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Ghostbusters (1984)
Halloween (1978)
It (2017)
Super (2010)
The Accountant (2016)
The Mummy (2017)
The Predator (2018)
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

You're totally right, kkt...looks like they didn't start sprinkling in the year of the movies until pretty late in their run.  I appreciate the help and updated these files, thanks!

It was never intended for it to actually be "The Mads" from MST3K, in character, doing it. Trace and Frank tour as a brand now called "The Mads". That's it. It's just them as real people.

I listened to most of the podcast (I'd skip episodes where they discuss movies I haven't seen) and enjoyed it, but it was definitely just an off-the-cuff discussion. Nothing was really written-out or planned. If any organization was done, I'm sure Carolina probably did it all. Not something I'll really miss, but I enjoyed it while it lasted.
