The president of Peru, Pedro Castillo, denounced this Monday coup attempts against his government by political sectors and the media hegemony, through intense smear campaigns.
"This new media campaign aims at promoting the presidential vacancy, exposing the anti-democratic attitudes of some sectors that seek to destabilize the country", denounced the head of state.
At the same time, the president rejected the unfounded theories that his trusted team interferes in the decision making process, "these statements are false in all their extremes (...) since the beginning of my administration I have been respectful of the decisions of the ministers of the State."
"This Government reiterates its position of providing solutions to Peru's problems (...) I hope that the political class acts responsibly in the country and not in mere private interests", emphasized President Castillo.
Regarding the provisions of the Constitution, the Head of State reiterated that he was elected by a majority of the popular vote and his mandate will last until July 28, 2026. "We are about to announce a more participative and broad-based cabinet for the greater benefit of Peruvians," he added.
Recently, the president of the Judicial Power, Elvia Barrios, asked President Castillo to summon the Council of State to an emergency meeting to plan strategies to solve the political crisis the country is going through.
Barrios reiterated the need for dialogue among national institutions as a method to promote actions to guarantee peace and citizen welfare, as well as the strengthening of the Peruvian democratic system.
Last Friday, February 4th, Peruvian President Pedro Castillo informed the reconformation of the Cabinet, but to date the new members are unknown, as well as the date of swearing in of the ministerial group.
