Well, it's about time Obama mentioned Trump's name in a speech! But I'd rather him trash the "Cult 45" leader, the way that Trump constantly goes after him. It was Don the Con who championed the Birther movement. The birth certificate was very real, and after all those years it became the one thing that Trump almost apologized for during the 2016 campaign.....almost.

Maybe Michelle Obama once said "When they go low, we go high!", but that doesn't work with Republicans. I say, "When they go low, we dig holes under their path!" The reason Democrats have been winning dozens of special elections in 2017 and 18 is because they've fought harder for their stand on the issues that benefit the working class....something that Repug candidates simply don't do.

Yes I heard clips of his speech yesterday.  As I said Obama wasn't as tough on Trump as the current president is on him.
Obama's speeches are intelligent and well-parsed as always, but the problem is that they're more general rather than specific. That's how he takes the high road.

For example if I want to hear about specific crimes and Constitutional violations that Trump and his cronies have committed or terrible policy decisions he's made that are destroying this country,  former President Obama isn't going to go into the details.  That's why I listen to political podcasts that break that all down.  Obama isn't a pundit but after many years in Washington, DC he knows how it's supposed to work, and how it used to work.  Wink

Correcting my earlier post, I recently listened to Obama's speech at the 2016 Democratic Convention for the second time. He was much more brutal ( but still in a gentle way ) on Donald Trump, while attacking his character. Although his recent speech was also well-written, I still feel he could have gone into more specifics on harmful policies put into place by the current administration's cabinet including Betsy DeVos, Mick Mulvaney, Steve Mnuchin, Stephen Miller, former EPA administrator Scott Pruitt, etc. If Obama would take questions from the audience, maybe some of those issues would come up.

I think it was well placed and classic Obama that YOU have the power in a small but bigger picture.
