Help with extracting specifics from a torrent/tutorial questions.
#1
Hi all,

This is what I’m doing (or trying to do):
https://pirates-forum.org/Thread-3040-Ho...o-Download

Basically, I want to extract an item, from this torrent:
https://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6061029...)___Extras

I have all seasons, just not the extras. I was able to do this before, but now, nothing in the list comes up when I tell uTorrent to save my torrent,  nothing comes up in the list…

Is it my uTorrent version (I believe when I extracted before, I was using a higher version. Now I downgraded to uTorrent 2.2.1
I'm anticipating a list of items... All 6 seasons and the extras. I'm looking for the Extras specifically

Can you guys see the stuff in the torrent to chose from????  If so,  what do you think I am doing wrong? Can't be my connection, I just D/L'ed the new Linkin Park...

PS: I put my post here since the tutorial is not what I'm questioning... May be an issue with this specific torrent, or (and most likely) the issue is with me *****ing something up.

you cant "extract" from a torrent unless you know what blocks they are in, so how you did it before is a new one on me

uTorrent 2.2.1 predated the widespread use of magnet links. It handles them but not as elegantly as later versions where the support was beefed up.

It pops up the file selection/save location dialog as soon as you click the magnet link (i.e. before it has obtained the file list/.torrent file from the swarm) so it doesn't at that point know what is in the torrent. Click OK and then it will carry on--it will obtain the .torrent file from the swarm and download the complete contents.

Later they changed it so that as soon as you click the magnet link it goes away to the swarm to fetch the .torrent file, and update the dialog as soon as possible so that you could do file selection, which is what you have become accustomed to seeding.

The old way is a tiny bit cumbersome but it's fine, it just means you have to wait a minute or two after you click ok for the file list to be retrieved and the Files tab populated and then you can deselect the files you don't want there.

Got it, thanks. I think the torrent started out slowly. But like you suggested, once it hit and the files showed up, I deselected all others except the extras. Never knew you can do that once the torrent started.

Appreciate the advice.

With µTorrent  2.21:

Start download, click 'FILES' Tab, highlight everything you don't want, choose: 'Don't Download'.

EDIT: The OP responded while I was posting! Maybe someone else will find this useful! LOL

Thanks! Exactly what I ended up doing. I tried to delete the unwanted files, but as you illustrated, you just have to select to "skip" the unwanted ones.
