Björk - Vökuró

[Verse 1]
My farm
My farm and yours
Sleeps happily at peace
Falls snow
Silent at dusk on earth
My grass
My grass and yours
Keeps the earth till spring

[Verse 2]
Nesting spring
Hid at the hill’s root
Awake as are we
Faith in life
Quiet cold spring
Eye of the depths
Into the firmament
Staring still in the night

[Verse 3]
Far away
Wakes the great world
Mad with grim enchantment
Disquieted
Fearful of night and day
Your eyes
Fearless and serene
Smile bright at me

[Verse 4]
My hope
Your blest smile
Rouses verse from sleep
The earth’s rests
Silent in arms of snow
Lily white
Closes her blue eyes
My little girl

Christmas Concerto

Arcangelo Corelli

The pastoral strains of Corelli’s Christmas Concerto have been a festive mainstay since the work’s publication in 1714. Published as Concerto grosso in G minor, Op. 6, No. 8, the work was published posthumously and gained its Christmas name due to an inscription on the title page reading, ‘Fatto per la notte di Natale (made for the night of Christmas)’.

Performed by Musica Amphion

Conductor: Pieter-Jan Belder

Recored live on The Sunday Morning Concert, Sunday the 24th of December 2017 in Het Concertgebouw, Amsterdam.

Michelangelo - "Matter and Spirit"

Michelangelo (1475-1564), full name Michelangelo Di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, Italian sculptor, architect, painter, and poet, who was one of the most inspired creators in the history of art, and, with Leonardo da Vinci, the most potent force in the Italian High Renaissance. As a sculptor, architect, painter, and poet, he exerted a tremendous influence on his contemporaries and on subsequent Western art in general.

A Florentine, although born March 6, 1475, in the small village of Caprese near Arezzo—Michelangelo continued to have a deep attachment to his city, its art, and its culture throughout his long life. He spent the greater part of his adulthood in Rome, employed by the popes: characteristically, however, he left instructions that he be buried in Florence, and his body was placed there in a fine monument in the church of Santa Croce.

During his long lifetime, Michelangelo was an intimate of princes and popes, from Lorenzo de’ Medici to Leo X, Clement VIII, and Pius III (1439-1503), as well as cardinals, painters, and poets.

Two generations of Italian painters and sculptors were impressed by his treatment of the human figure: Raphael, Annabale Caracci, Pontormo, Rosso Fiorentino, Sebastiano del Piombo, and Titian. His dome for St. Peter’s became the symbol of authority, as well as the model, for domes all over the Western world; the majority of state capitol buildings in the US, as well as the Capitol in Washington, DC are derived from it.

Michelangelo is celebrated for such masterpieces as his statues of David and Moses, and the Pieta (1497). His painting of the Sistine Chapel took four years to complete (1508-1512).

"Now This Tiny House Will Turn Heads"

DIY built and packed to the rafters in style, this home is beautiful in every which way you look. This modern tiny house is nothing short of stunning. Just wait until you see the incredible interior!

I'm always such a big fan of visiting DIY homes. It's in these houses, built by the hands of those who inhabit them, that you see the most loving craftsmanship as people put in the extra mile to complete a home they will live in and enjoy themselves and with their loved ones. This tiny home is no exception and doesn't disappoint.

"UK Actors' Spectacular Tiny Home On London Outskirts"

A DIY build using almost entirely reclaimed materials, there is a tremendous amount to love about this home. It's fantastic, feature packed design makes the home not only lively but also immensely clever and functional.

Harrie and Joe are a fun-loving couple who have constructed a tiny house which is almost as lively as they are, Surrounded by beautiful gardens and with a lovely rural outlook, their stunning home is only a stones throw out of London city.

Perhaps the best part of this tiny house is the fact that it has allowed Harrie and Joe to reduce their financial overheads and work full time doing the work they love as actors. Joe as a stage actor and Harrie who records audio books from her tiny home studio.

"Woman Finds Freedom In A Forest Tiny Home"

In this weeks episode we meet Christine, a remarkable woman who has found personal freedom through living in a remarkable tiny home set amongst the rainforest.

This is a tiny house that has it all. It's beautifully constructed and filled with things which brings Christine joy, even including a piano!

"French Musician’s Dream Tiny House With Epic Music Studio"

Not only does this tiny house contain a music studio but of course it's also a fully functional home which beautifully encapsulates all of owner Guillaume's needs.

As a musician myself, I'm totally enamoured with what Guillaume has created here. This is a fantastic home which dedicates a tremendous amount of space to what is obviously a true passion.

One of the core tenants of tiny house and small space design is to build in accordance with your need and desires. You need to make sure the home is constructed around how you personally intend to use your space and this home is a phenomenal example of that.

"This Incredible Woman Built Herself A Tiny House In Lockdown"

In this weeks episode we meet Bérangère, an inspiring ***** woman who amazingly built her very own tiny house during lockdown in France. Her spectacular home is named ‘La Belle Idée, which translates to The Beautiful Idea.

Bérangère was inspired to build her tiny home after spending four years traveling and realising she desired a place to call home. With minimal possessions and still wanting a place which would give her options for where she could live, she decided a tiny house would be the perfect home.

Originally, she had intended to construct her home together with others as part of a tiny house building workshop, but lockdown in France put an end to the workshop after the first week and Bérangère was then left to complete the home on her own.

The result is a beautiful and inspiring build.

"Woman's Wondrous Dual Tiny House Home & Art Studio"

In this weeks episode we meet Trees, an inspiring artist who has constructed two beautiful tiny houses to form both her home and art studio. Between the two, she has created an ideal set-up, with one home being a sanctuary where she can relax and sleep and the other, a place for work and creativity.

The two tiny houses are joined by a covered deck which provides additional outdoor living space and combined, they form a dream home for this artist.

"Yoga Teacher's Amazing House Bus & Mobile Studio"

These yoga teachers have done an amazing bus conversion and created not only a beautiful home for themselves but also a mobile yoga studio which will allow them to travel the country while teaching yoga.

This off the grid bus is packed full of really unusual features, including unique indoor tents which help to provide more privacy and rooms within the bus. There’s loads of storage, including really neat ideas such as repurposed airline draws and lots more.

The entire home has been DIY  built with the principles of yoga in mind, and the couple have added a large yoga platform onto the roof of the bus turning it into a traveling yoga studio.

"The Nook On The Hill Is Not Your Average Small Home"

The Nook On The Hill isn’t your average house. Far from it. It’s small in size, but huge in heart. There’s love built into the walls of this home. Memory of friends and family. For its builders and owners, Benj and Holly, it’s a place of sanctuary and healing.

This small house has everything. It’s filled with character and brilliant design. Spatially, it’s an efficient home which boasts all the best qualities of tiny homes and small space design in a slightly larger and grounded structure. It’s solar powered and built with many reclaimed materials. It’s filled with art, colour, and treasured handcrafted items.

Beyond all that though, this home has a character which extends out far beyond its brick and mortar. It tells a deep story of love, loss and perseverance.

Classical Journey:

Wilhelm Stenhammar

c. 1916
[Image: MIrkMJYq_o.jpg]

Stenhammar was born in Stockholm, where he received his first musical education. He then went to Berlin to further his studies in music. He became a glowing admirer of German music, particularly that of Richard Wagner and Anton Bruckner. Stenhammar himself described the style of his First Symphony in F major as "idyllic Bruckner".[1] He subsequently sought to emancipate himself and write in a more "Nordic" style, looking to Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius for guidance.

From 1906 to 1922 he was Artistic Director and chief conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony, the first full-time professional orchestra in Sweden. In this capacity, he organizd many performances of music by contemporary Scandinavian composers. In 1909, he briefly held the position of director of music at Uppsala University.

His works were quite varied and included two completed symphonies, a substantial Serenade for Orchestra, piano concertos, piano sonatas, a violin sonata, string quartets, many songs and other vocal works, including several large-scale works for chorus or voices and orchestra.

Writing in The Chamber Music Journal, R.H.R. Silvertrust notes that Stenhammar's string quartets are the most important written between those of Johannes Brahms and Béla Bartók. Whether or not this is so, there is no denying that Stenhammar's quartets represent a very important development during the twenty-five years he was writing chamber music. Tonally, they range from the middle late Romantics to a style akin to mature Sibelius. Though not unknown by the Swedish chamber music public, his string quartets have been neglected elsewhere.

Stenhammar was considered the finest Swedish pianist of his time. Pianists who venture into the realm of the string quartet often wind up writing compositions which sound as though they were composed at, and are perhaps better played on, the piano. That Stenhammar's works show no such trait is because for nearly half of his life, he worked intimately with the Aulin Quartet, the top Swedish string quartet of his day and one of the best then performing in Europe. In fact, he toured throughout Europe with them for many years and a piano quintet was nearly always featured on their programs. Thus it is no accident that his quartets show a fine grasp of instrumental timbre and technique. The part writing is sure, always idiomatic and evenly distributed.

Stenhammar died of a stroke at 56 years of age in Jonsered in the historic province of Västergötland. He is buried in Gothenburg.
