From Arstechnica:

Quote:The current draft, called "Protecting Americans from Online Censorship," would put the burden of Internet content management on the Federal Communications Commission, calling on the agency—which has never before dealt with regulation of online content—to develop regulations clarifying under what circumstances social media platforms are protected by the law when moderating content. It also says the Federal Trade Commission should consider whatever policies the FCC comes up with when it investigates companies for not adhering to their stated policies.
I enjoy my free speech, but the first amendment is not strictly about just being able to speak your mind, it is also about the freedom of association. In other words, if I want to start an online forum about kittens, I shouldn't be forced to have to accept political speech on it, or if I wanted to start a club that adheres to strict rules of etiquette, I should be allowed to enforce internal standards of speech. If such a thing gets written, I doubt it will last long in courts.

That's what happens when the people elect a poser that can't spell constitution, much less understand its contents.

I'm not sure what this new social-media regulation will entail, but given that conservative extremists are in charge of our Executive branch now.....expect them to suppress the truth by deleting or at least de-monetizing anyone and everyone on the Left they disagree with across social media.

Agree, but in a way, don't you think that's what the left is doing now, with the control of social media??? Or apparent control of social media since they seem to be the loudest of the whiny bitches
I don't agree this is the way to go. Make it so it's unbiased, but without government control...Trump and his fake news crusade are just trying to pick up the same rocks thrown at him and throw them back... By slanting the already uber left social media and turn it uber right.
The times are just bad... Opinions become facts, and if you have a differing opinion, you are a (fill in the blank) racist, *****ist, Nazi or commie. This shit on social media is being taken WAY too seriously.

It doesn't bother me much, because opinions are like assholes .... everybody has one.
The Left lost control of traditional media -- particularly in radio and TV , where the "Right" wisely used their billions of corporate dollars to do massive media consolidation and mergers. It was the strategy first implemented on radio in 1987 and TV and Internet nearly a decade later when the Telecommunications Act of 1996 passed. That's why Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and other wrong-wing lapdogs can keep doing their shows on thousands of stations....regardless of their low ratings. The hate-talkers are paid by the super-wealthy to spew their non-sensical talking points.
Meanwhile, where are the honest talk-show hosts on the Left in those media ? They're on a fraction of the airwaves. So their bitching is more justified for that reason.
Yet it's the conservatives and wrong-wingers in social media who are being the loudest about being de-platformed. Sargon of Akaad ( a.k.a. Carl Benjamin ) being one of the more recent. Last year it was Trump-worshipers Diamond & Silk. Some people on the Left have been affected too, such as David Pakman and briefly The Majority Report...but that was because Sam Seder and Michael Brooks violated You Tube's policy for streaming the latest Democratic Debates. ( CNN enforced their copyright there. )
If Twitter was controlled by liberals Donald Trump would have been banned for his multiple violations of their Terms & Conditions YEARS before becoming president. They've gotten too large, and both they and Facebook should be broken up. Fortunately I only use Facebook to do business with people. For You Tube I watch old TV shows.
I don't know if liberals control social media. It's just that there are more of us in this country than the ill-informed on the other team! Facebook and Twitter are owned by billionaires. I don't see Tom Steyer buying his own media platform. Instead he's running for President!
