Yea but as KingFish stated with a little tweaking it's almost like Windows 7.
But you better get use to it cause this is the direction that there going towards. Granted when Windows 8 came out it they were focusing on tablets and the phones as they felt it would bring the mobile people to the pc people. However they just forgot the pc people. But with programs like StarDocks WinStart (I think that's right) it gave the basic desktop a more Win 7 look which most of us wanted. If you don't use these tweeks you'll find Windows 8.1 not very friendly, also if you don't use them and just throw 8.1 off to the side then it's your own fault.

There were slow as hell. Furthermore, I hate the fact that they castrated Windows Media Player into not "autoplaying" DVDs. Anyone encountered this? Whatever. My computer is a P4 2.8GHz, with 2 GB RAM and two hard drives: one 80GB internal and 2TB external.

Your issue is the processor, chances are you will get an early dual core that will fit at a very reasonable price that will make your PC seem very responsive.

I quite like Win 8.1 (Don't laugh). A bit different, and something new to learn, which is always good

I loved Windows 2000 even though I've moved on.
I liked the stability, and the sleek fading effects when you press the start key. Linux Mint and Ubuntu, to my knowledge, also had that once Back to topic: the reason I picked Windows 7 is that in retrospect, I thought it was the only Windows OS that didn't have a steep learning curve. I hate to have to do things the new if you're accustomed to the old ones. I don't know, I'm probably too lazy.

I personally like Windows 7 - I like old school Windows UI.
The new Windows 8 is pretty confusing. I understand using that OS for Tablets, but why the f**k is Microsoft trying to force it on Desktop users - that's ridiculous as f**k.

I wonder what you would have thought when Windows 1.0 came out after using DOS for so long. No GUI interface in DOS. Everybody is trying to make you like something that they want to like. Take for instances Google+ and Youtube. That was the most screwed up thing but they wanted to be like Facebook. At least MS has heard what people don't like about 8 and is slowly trying to change it to something we all know and can understand. Ever try to discover how something works? I had to look on Google to find out where the updates were and there she was. I also looked up if I had to use my old Hotmail Account or not when you did the setup. I also looked up before I installed 8.1 how to put the start button back and make it look like 7. There still a few things that I don't like. Like the Explorer (Not IE), there's a lot more folders now in the list and it's kinda annoying as I only want to see my harddrives and my networked computers and my dvd drive and that's it. Ok maybe the music and video but there's so many other folders that I don't want to see. Haven't looked up yet on how to get rid of them due to the fact that it's a HTPC and I'm usually in Plex or XBMC the entire time unless I'm having to install something and then I have to look at all those damn folders.
