technically, you don't need it. your mac comes equipped with software for running windows known as 'bootcamp'. you can find out more about it here: https://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
but, parallels is better imo since it will allow you to run windows in a virtual environment within osx.

It depends, are you trying to install Windows from an existing PC or are you installing Windows from something you downloaded?

It depends, are you trying to install Windows from an existing PC or are you installing Windows from something you downloaded? downloaded windows 7 and it works.. on IE theres loads of pop ups atthe bottom which annoys me. will it not happen with firefox?

It's basically a PC, so of course there's pop-ups. Get a good ad/malware/virus blocker and install it in Windows.

burn windows on a dvd, place the dvd on top of your mac..voilla! windows on mac
