Hard drive not recognised help asap please - WW3hasstarted - Aug 26, 2018 hi everyone, this morning i found my pc monitor wouldnt show anything ( pc left on overnight downloading) so i had to crash it on restart my f drive a 4tb external drive isnt recognised anymore and win10 is kindly asking would i like to format it ! help is there a way to fix this ? ive got a horrible feeling im going to have to use easeus data recovery wizard software ( like i had to do months ago on another drive that had a problem with file system ) just had small pop up window appear location is not available f\ is not accessible the volume does not contain a recognized file system please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - theSEMAR - Aug 26, 2018 Before you use data recovery wizard software, maybe you can try this, Connect your external drive to other PC/laptop. still same "the volume does not contain a recognized file system" or other PC/laptop says different. From there now you will able to conclude, there your external HDD is ok or not. :hoping the best for your hdd: RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - WW3hasstarted - Aug 26, 2018 i have no idea what happened to my pc over night, its not the first time somethings frozen the system up..maybe its bittorrent ive begun using the easeus software as it takes so long to run, will let you know what happens this time ! had about 4tb on the external drive so this really could take ages RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - jerrysmatrix - Aug 27, 2018 I am not an expert in using this tool, so you're going to want to do some research before trying anything. However let me leave TestDisk here to point you in the right direction. ( thats on a full up 4tb external drive) last time i used this tool it basically finds the videos etc but they get grouped together by file type eg mkv, mp4 so if like me you had thousands of hours of videos on a drive in many seperate folders you end up with them all scrambled together so it takes ages to drag them into new folders you have to make i will ( if this recovers stuff ok ) attach a new 4tb hard drive and drag stuff into new folders to organise my files then i will reformat the damaged drive, as i said pc was on over night while i slept with bittorrent running, something froze/crashed the pc , i think from now on best advice for everyone is when you complete downloads drag them to a 2nd hard drive and then detach the drive so if an error like this happens your files wont all be messed up RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - jerrysmatrix - Aug 27, 2018 You can expect it to take a long time. My 4tb hard drive took about a week and a half to recover, after a Windows 10 install molested it for no reason at all. It was a pain in the ass, but I was glad to get my irreplacable files back. Just goes to show that you shouldn't keep all of your eggs in one basket, and the bigger the basket the more painful it can be. RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - dueda - Aug 28, 2018 What I do here, after a disaster: 1. As much as possible, I download to SD card / flash drive. Some torrents are too big, but I've a cheap 32GB SD that fits most. 2. When complete, I move them to na external 4TB drive which stays connected. 3. Keep most important files on another external unit, off-line. If you've a notebook with USB 3 charging option, even a blackout shouldn't hurt as far you keep your USB-powered external unit plugged there and power options to hibernate when battery reaches 20% (and also after 12-48h unnatended, to be safe). People say SD cards won't last long with intense apps like torrent clients, but I use them for temporary storage only and they're relatively cheap. RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - WW3hasstarted - Sep 05, 2018 the thing is i often have 5 or 6 torrents downloading plus many im seeding so i need lots of files on 4tb drive, what i really need to know is what causes these freeze ups of the pc ! is it win10 ? is it bittorrent ? has anyone got any idea how windows can end up unable to recognise a drive that was fine ? as i said the best thing i can think to do is to attach a 2nd 4tb external drive each evening and copy the completed files to it and then delete the ones i dont need to seed from the 1st drive then unplug the 2nd drive at night ( keep it unplugged as much as possible due to these unknown serious errors) RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - WW3hasstarted - Sep 06, 2018 just trying to use test disk and i just dont know how to use it , has anyone used it ? https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk obviously i need to know what to do to fix the problem i have thanks RE: Hard drive not recognised help asap please - WW3hasstarted - Sep 08, 2018 in computer management i can see the drive has changed from NTFS to Raw, thats what i need to fix, does anyone know how to fix this ? thanks |
