Windows Update and Windows Defender - RobertX - Dec 03, 2019

As per my posts in theSEMAR's KMS_VL_All tutorials, I plan to use WIndows 10 Pro when my new computer comes.

Now, I have a question: to update Windows Defender Antivirus, do I need to enable Windows Update?

I was going to ask in theSEMAR's thread, but I realise that it's not related so I'll ask the question here.

Thank you.

EDIT: And Merry Christmas everyone! Have a good one and stay safe!

AFAIK, Windows Updates not related to Windows Defender Updates.
Even if you disable Windows Updates via Group Policy, Windows Defender still doing MalwareDefinition Updates if Windows Defender still running (not set to disabled via Group Policy)

Merry Christmas to you Smile

My thanks to you.

Now, theSEMAR, did you only use Windows 10 Pro, or have you also tried Windows 10 Home?

I've been fooling around with Windows 10 Home for the past few days. Of course, I can also use Pro, but I am still compelled to keep trying Home for a few days. Just trying to tinker with the untouched image that I downloaded.

If my image works well with Mother's computer, and can be slipstreamed, I will not try another pirated release again, though I won't exactly get rid of my Team OS's account this soon.

I always use Pro Edition. Never use Home Edition because lack of Group Policy features.

Yes. Group Policy allows for finer control over Win settings, enabling you to do things that Redmond would normally not permit. Its kind of like Linux Polkit on Steroids. But fortunately most settings have explanations. Just google when not certain, as some options can have unintended effects.

Another section of Win to take a chainsaw to.

Also I believe that Home lacks Virtualization capabilities. Which can be *very* useful.

Took a virtual test of Windows 10 Home.

Yes, Home requires that you have Windows Update enabled in order to use Windows Defender updates.

Not urgent, but I just felt daring, that's all. Smile
