Questions about WIndows 8.1 - RobertX - Jul 15, 2014

I've been thinking of removing this computer from WIndows 7 to WIndows 8.1, still dual-booting with Linux Mint 17. Now, this computer is pre-UEFI/pre-Secure Boot, but I wonder if the thought deserves to be made. I have a few questions about 8.1 that I won't mind being answered. Please bear with me.

1. I've heard that WIndows Media Player 12 of Windows 7 is non-existent. It's in the Pro Editon under Media Centre. Here's the link: https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/10426140/Windows_8.1_AIO_24in1_with_Update_x86_v2_en-US_Jun2014 . Is this true? Can I just install WMC or do I have to install a third-party client, not that I mind?

2. For those familiar with murphy78's post Microsoft XP activation, such as Windows Vista/7/8/8.1 and/or Office 2010/2013, these questions are for you: how long does AutoKMS keep the activation for Windows 8/8.1? After that period, does the proggy renew it?

3. Anything you want to tell in closing?

Thanks.

I don't use Media Player but I do know that only the Pro version has Media Center. The Enterprise version does not.

I'm running murphy78's Windows 8.1 as a HTPC and been going for 4 months I think and still no problems. You always want to get something like Stardocks Start8 to get the start button if you need it. I've done normal updates and no problems at all. One thing about Windows 8 that I didn't know that it makes you think when you start the setup that you need to make or use a online account to sign in. I still had a old hotmail account and I used the info but then I decided that I really didn't like using it cause I further searched on the web and found that you can make a offline account like basicly all other OS's. I don't have the link handy but you can find it with a google search.
