Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - RobertX - Jul 19, 2014 After installing a codec pack on a Windows 7 Windows Media Player 12, I tested it. When I did, all of the files worked well, until I tried to open an MP4 file. It says WMP has encountered an error and a web link barfs out the code C00D11B1. I did what the page told me as suggestions. I did hear from other sources that Windows Media Player 12 does not support MP4 files, something which I cannot believe. Tried installing codec A, didn`t work, tried another player (like Media Player Classic), the picture was spoiled by lines all of the place, I think I am going blond. Any advice you throw at me will be appreciated. RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - Spud17 - Jul 20, 2014 I don't use wmp and have no idea if this will help, but there are some tips on how to get it to play MP4, here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/a3b1fb14-4b4c-449a-88e8-05268f7013a7/windows-media-player-wont-play-mp4-when-it-once-did-and-other-players-will?forum=w7itpromedia https://www.sevenforums.com/music-pictures-video/219583-can-t-play-mp4-video-files-windows-media-player.html RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - RobertX - Jul 23, 2014 UPDATE! I *****ing uninstalled WMP12 and vowed to not use it on this computer again! It's an abomination of Windows programs! I revived my usage of Daum Potplayer. Read more about it in an ealier post over here: https://pirates-forum.org/Thread-Your-Useful-Freeware-Shareware?pid=216#pid216 And thank you for the help, spud. What is the format? RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - RobertX - Jul 23, 2014 Hi, nelly, thanks for the reply. How can I find that information? RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - -nelly- - Jul 23, 2014 https://app.zencoder.com/docs/faq/codecs-and-formats RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - RobertX - Jul 23, 2014 From what I make of the link provided, MP4 is the format. Quote:A format is a file container that holds one or more codecs – video, audio, or even data. The container format contains information about the video, audio, and data tracks that it holds. Some example container formats are mov (Quicktime), mp4, ogg, and avi. RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - imPROvise - Jul 23, 2014 MP4 would be the container format. What is the video or audio format thats in the mp4 container? You can get that info from MediaInfo - https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo Then maybe someone could help you find the right codec. I'm trying to help, so i hope I 'm not going off course. RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - RobertX - Jul 23, 2014 Would AVC be a codec? Code: General OK guys, I'm just going to use Potplayer for good. Tinkering with codec settings is becoming an eyesore. Potplayer, unlike WMP12, works with everything, and besides, Microsoft is dropping Windows Media Player for the rest of its sorry life. Thanks for the ideas, but I'm giving it a miss. RE: Windows Media Player 12 no open MP4 despite codecs - KingAlex - Jul 27, 2014 VLC is the best video player ... try it |
