The Jazz thread. - Joker__TPB - Nov 15, 2015

I love jazz and I would like to start a thread dedicated to it, where anybody can post videos or discuss about it.

Art Tatum & Ben Webster - The Album (1956)

Great idea. Shame it doesn't seem to have generated a hell of a lot of interest.

Norman McLaren, painting directly on film. Oscar Peterson, imitable as always on piano.

And for something different...

Hey, don't knock yourself. Desmond and Brubeck? That's a great one, a classic. And those oldtv copies? Shit, I wish that after the 1950s and early 60s television executives were as interested in jazz, instead of just squeaking out the tiniest edge in ratings.

Here's another tv cast, unfortunately from a worn VHS tape. But it's got two other legends, the good friends (and two of the "Brothers" from Woody Herman's old band), *****t Sims and Al Cohn:

And here's a much later great tv cast with Red Norvo and Tal Farlow. Farlow always used to say that he learned to play at an incredible speed because he to, in order to keep up with Norvo. This one's not that fast, but it is tasty:

There isn't a lot of Lester ***** on film or tv, but there are a few great noir jazz shorts that were made. He shows up in this one, doing a beautiful job:

And another great tv appearance, this time with Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker. No network executive would think to spend on-air time these days with artists of this stature:
