Multi-Casting Over A Network With CloneZilla LIVE Server Edition

This quick tutorial assumes that you already have a copy of both CloneZilla LIVE CD for taking the initial HDD image and CloneZilla LIVE Server Edition to push out (Multi-Cast) the image over a LAN to multiple PC's/Laptops.

A tutorial on creating an image/clone of a Hard Drive using CloneZilla LIVE CD can be found HERE.

1. Make sure all client PC's/Laptops are on the network but powered off.

2. Boot up the HOST PC with CloneZilla LIVE Server Edition disk.

3. Hit ENTER once the GUI displays (Takes 2-3 mins to load up everything).

4. Select language (English) and hit ENTER.

5. Select Don't Touch Keymap and hit ENTER.

6. Hit ENTER again (Takes 2-3 mins to load up everything and may appear to be "HUNG". It's not).

7. When the DEBIAN O/S screen appears, click on Use Default Config if prompted (It may not appear which is fine).

8. Double click on the CloneZilla Server icon to open it.

9. Select Use Static IP Address and hit ENTER.

10. Enter the following configuration details and hit ENTER after each one is entered:


A) IP Address For ethO: 10.1.1.1

B) Network Mask For ethO: 255.255.255.0

C) Default Gateway: 10.1.1.1

D) Name Server: 10.1.1.1



11. Type n and hit ENTER.

12. Select Use Local Device (E.g. Hard Drive, USB Drive) and hit ENTER.

13. Now plug in the external hard drive with the image on it, wait about 5-10 secs and then hit ENTER.

14. Select the external hard drive from the list and hit ENTER.

15. Select the folder that contains the image folder itself and hit ENTER.

16. Hit ENTER to continue.

17. Hit ENTER again and wait 2-4 mins for the the next part of the process to load up.

18. Choose All Select All The Clients and hit ENTER.

19. Select Expert Mode and hit ENTER.

20. Select Restore-Disk and hit ENTER.

21. Make sure ALL of the following are selected and then hit ENTER (Up, Down arrows to navigate and Space Bar to select):


A) -G AUTO

B) -EL AUTO

C) -E2

D) -X

E) -HN1 PC

F) -C



22. Select Use The Partition Table From The and hit ENTER.

23. Select Skip This Option and hit ENTER.

24. Select Reboot Client When The Clone Finishes and hit ENTER.

25. Hit ENTER again.

26. Leave Host Name prefix as PC and hit ENTER.

27. Choose the image file you intend to push out (Multi-Cast) and hit ENTER.

28. At the [*] SDA Disk(sd) Disk(A) window hit ENTER.

29. Select Multicast Multicast Restore and hit ENTER.

30. Select Clients To Wait and hit ENTER.

31. Type in the number of clients (PC's/Laptops) that your Multi-Casting the image to and hit ENTER.

32. Hit ENTER to continue.

33. Hit Enter to continue.

34. Now turn on all the client PC's/Laptops, enter the BIOS and select Network Boot.

35. Make sure CloneZilla: Multi-Cast Restore is selected on the client machine when they first boot up and hit ENTER (This takes 30-60 secs).

36. Type Y on the next screen of each client machine and hit ENTER.

37. The Multi-Casting will begin once steps 34-36 have been completed on ALL client machines.

38. Machines will re-boot once the Multi-Casting has completed and it's then safe to close down the HOST PC running CloneZilla LIVE Server Edition.
