Lost password problem win 8 - jaffer - Dec 10, 2016

I got here Lenovo ideapad S510p which has Windows 8 or 8.1 finnish version 64 bit..
My close relative has somehow managed to change the password to his only account.
..And by somehow I mean he has been drunk..Even the password clue is a swearword.
He called the company which sold this laptop, which was in this case service operator.
They told him that they do not have documents of laptops which were past their guarantee time.
All they said was how to reset the modem..Which has nothing to do with this.
I wanted to ask your help on how to reset the password?
There is no cd backup for the password that logon screen asks after it has asked usb thumbdrive.
There must be another way then purchasing a new laptop.

No help. Just ha! That's funny.

But seriously, you can maybe start in safe mode, and reset the whole computer. But to reactivate windows you would need the original code, yes? Someone else help out here please. I'm a moron when it comes to this. I shouldn't even have posted. But I did! Big Grin

Well it´s always good that someone has few laughs of it Rolleyes
i haven´t laughed for that laptop since my stepfather ordered it from
service provider..Old man who had not ever used computer and they said"Everyone can use it..No you don´t need to have any knowledge of computers"
They sold him that piece of 8 by the phone..
I´m not so technical what comes to win 8...
I was needed to put updates and usual CCleaner etc..
I tried KonBoot which was a no go..
This thing does not seem to let me even change boot order..
If it does it return to win 8 Os..HDD..
I tried to change it and restart with hiren´s boot CD..
No luck..Goes straight into Win 8 Screen with time and background one click away from password screen..
I even bolted the hard drive into my

as secondary..which was not a good idea..I don´t know what was i thinking?
To find password somehow through my old PC..
Did not work..checkdisk did..looping between the two..Until I stopped it with power button(by force)
Now my PC started up with bios screen out of the screen..but that´s no biggy..can´t get drivers disc for this either..
Any program what would pass a normal win 8 account and way to change the user password?

There are a couple of tools to reset or edit the password, like NT Password, Ophcrack

If all else fails, this is only a last resort so be very careful since there is no way out. If you cannot reset your password using the password bypasser method above, you are able to reinstall Windows 8 however do not wipe out during your reinstall!!! I am NOT sure it is might be the upgrade option or the full clean install. So test on a clean computer first with a dummy file. You will get to have the opportunity to keep your old files in Windows.old or something rather. In that Windows.old you can recover your old documents. That is what I have done in the past when I lost the password or reinstall.

The best way to reset the password on ANY Windows System is to hack the sticky keys.

1. Use the Windows disk to boot your computer. If you don't have one, you should be able to download one quite easily. Even a Win 10 would work for you in this case.
2. Boot the disk and select repair or troubleshoot PC (This will depend on your boot disk choice)
3. Select Command Prompt
4. Find the Windows drive. Quite often you will be presented with an X: at the prompt. If you type 'dir' and look for the windows directory. If it's there, you're good. If not, CD to another directory. Go through the letters until you find your windows drive.
5. Once you have it, make a backup of your sticky keys file. Type(Assuming C is your windows drive): copy c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe c:\
6. Then type(Again assuming C is your windows drive): copy c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe c:\windows\system32\sethc.exe
7. Yes to overrite
8. Quit and restart your computer
9. Once you are at the windows login screen hit your shift key five times, and you should get a CMD Prompt.
10. Type the following replacing 'username' with your username and 'password' with your desired password: net user username password

That's it. You are done without requiring any third party software. Again, this works on just about every windows version out there.

1. Download a light OS (I usually use Ubuntu)
2. Use a ISO burning software (Microsoft Rufus) to copy ISO file to a USB drive
3. Boot using the USB drive
4. Press 'Try Ubuntu' option
5. Open file explorer
6. Open HDD containing system files
7. Go to Windows\system32
8. Rename Sethc.exe to Sethc.old
9. Copy and paste cmd.exe to same directory and rename to sethc.exe
10. Restart computer (boot to windows HDD) after removing USB drive
11.Once the logon screen opens press repeatedly press shift until cmd opens
METHOD 1
12. Type "net user" on CMD. And it will give the names of the users on the computer ( I will use Jaffer as the username on following command)
13. Type "net user Jaffer XXX"
14. Close CMD and type XXX as password
METHOD 2
12.Type "net user administrator /active:yes" And restart PC
13. Login to the new administrator account without password
14. Goto Control panel and remove password of the other account
