Magnet links opening in Utorrent even though they're associated with Deluge? - ReiSixx9 - Oct 27, 2017

I recently installed Utorrent 2.2.1 to seed my torrent as it works better than Deluge, but I prefer Deluge to download my torrent. However, since I installed Utorrent whenever I click on the magnet link on tpb or anywhere it opens in Utorrent even though I for sure have "associate ____" (all of them) unchecked and in Deluge I have "Associate Magnet links with Deluge" enabled. I've been just having to manually copy paste the magnet links into Deluge and it's getting really tiring. Any ideas?

Working Deluge and uTorrent side by side is tricky (Especially if you emulating). You'll need to decide who handles what and make that default (Hope that explains it).

You can mess around with divisions of defaults but that will only cost you time and a crashed dual boot system Wink

It largely depends on what browser you are using.

Some of them maintain their own list if file associations, others use the OS to tell them what app to use.

It is entirely possible that whatever mechanism Deluge uses to set itself as the default isn't changing anything in your browser.

But I already have Deluge set at the default for Magnet Links.

I'm using Chrome. I always thought it used the OS to choose, but maybe I'm wrong. Any idea?

Edit: Nevermind. Apparently Chrome updated and made it impossible to change its magnet link settings so I just used regedit.

Mind if you answer yourself here and tell us what part of Windows's registry database you edited.... that would be helpful for some people with the same issue.
