Nothing beats pokemon as far as that console is concerned in my opinion. Gotta get them all etc etc...Any game from that series would do.
Also check out The Legend Of Zelda series , Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Metroid Fusion, Super Mario Advance series, especially the 2nd one, Advance Wars and Mario Kart: Super Circuit.

I haven't played GBA games that much, but I've always liked the Pokemon series. It was a great marketing strategy, not only are there different Gameboy versions, and not only are the RPG elements unrivalled (sp?), you can probably those versions on a Pokemon battle stadium on the Gamecube or, I think, the Wii.
Please correct me if I was wrong about the Wii.
You might want to interest your friends if your phone can support network linking of GBA games.

Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, Pokemon Ruby or Emerald, Mario & Lugi: SuperStar Saga, Golden Sun, Golden Sun: The Lost Age are all my favorites.

I absolutely adored "Yoshi's Island" and "Pokemon Sapphire" on the GBA. Those two were my favorites.

Tales of Phantasia.
I didn't play it on GBA per se, but I trust that it's as good as the ones on Super Famicom (translated) and PSX (also translated).
