2010 - Check .rar file for password !
#1
In this Tutorial will you learn how to see if a .rar file is password protected.

1. Download 2-3% of the torrent. Till you can see the archive.

2. Now Open the download folder and find the file.

After you have found the file.

Do this. Right click --> Properies --> Archive.

A passworded .rar file will look like this :

And without password .rar file will look like this :

So if it shows :

A. Present in Passwords field it means the file is passworded !

B. Absent in password field it means the file is NOT passworded !

You don't. You can't. The passwords are long random strings which are never published. But that doesn't really matter, because the .rar file doesn't contain what it's alleged to contain anyway.

Fakers create such files, with enticing names, of (for example) movies that aren't available anywhere yet, to lure you to infectious websites on the promise of the password.

But they never give out the password because then it could be published somewhere, and people would be able to see that the files were fake, so people would cease to be lured to the infectious website.

That's why passworded .rar files are not allowed on TPB (unless the password is given in the torrent description)--report them in the Report Torrents forum and they will be deleted and the uploader banned.

That's dangerous info and is totally incorrect. Your pushing the idea for peeps to trawl through Malware.

Not nice and i'm surprised you decided to come to a forum/specific to post such crap ?

Post constructive, credible info or just don't post.

Yes, I agree you should be carefully when cracking a password , but If you take care of knowing what program are safe to download and run, you should be okay, I did not mean to implied to go blindly get any software from any site and use but if care is used in finding a program, again you should be fine. To say that you can not find out the password on a RAR file is not right, but you must do it in the right way. Only trying to help.

Hi

This does not work for me. It is a rar file. i downloaded 4% of it. I right click on rar and click properties but do not see any archive tab. Edit not an archive tab even at 28 %? I had to download it fully before the archive tab appeared. Thanks

What's the point anyways of passworded files where the PW is given away in the torrent description? Looks a bit like an exercise of futility to me.

Most of the passworded RAR files I contain what is advertised. If I'm missing the password, I simply search Google for the filename of the RAR file. I usually find the password for the RAR file posted on some obscure forum.

There isn't one. But that doesn't stop people from doing it.

And as long as they're not trying to screw people, we won't stop them from doing it.
