Is the online piracy community dead?
#1
With sites like Kickass Torrents and many others gone TPB not doing much these days video games becoming harder to crack and the rise in streaming services like Netflix and Disney + I've been wondering if the piracy community is dying out what do you guys think?

I hope not because I have a lot of involvement here so I don't want to see things being affected.

Well I seem to be doing really well as of late.  I get lots of hits of traffic so as far as I'm concerned it's not dead, not for me anyway.  The RYP Network @ TPB is still doing really well.  I did have a huge spike last year in 2020 in July and I was quite shocked how many people downloaded from me I'm maybe thinking it had something to do with the Pandemic.  I do get lots of people connecting to me all the time and it usually happens at the Weekend.  I think when it gets to Friday afternoon or Friday night and into Saturday morning and throughout Saturday and into Sunday I get hundreds of people who download and those are more the peak times for me.  I do get quite popular at the Weekend I guess it's when people are at home and they are wanting something to watch or maybe when people are simply just not at work like during the week doing their 9 to 5 or whatever they get up to.

Like for example right now there's hundreds of people all downloading and it's Saturday morning right now so it's the sort of time that people are wanting to watch movies and to be frank with you I share more than Netflix now.  The thing about Netflix is that they do tend to take a lot of movies off their streaming services when it suits them and I don't do that I leave them all there I never delete anything.

I can't complain really I have people downloading all the time and it's great and it all seems to be working very well.  I know the TPB stats don't work and it hasn't really for quite some time and that's something to do with Winston and not me.  I guess Winston is about the most important thing on TPB and without him everything would be lost.

Depends on what you mean "die out," but my "piracy" is staying and not going anytime soon.

Some people are quitting, yes, video games are indeed harder to crack, but the more people feel they are *****ed over, especially in the video game sphere, the more people are turning over to piracy or at least staying.

I asked myself this question about 19 years back when games are starting to use protections, satellite thieves are going out in droves, and Microsoft is using activation schemes for their software, and it also comes to the answer of "no."

When you say "dying out," you can also say that the death penalty is 'dying out," as fewer US states are defending it, and, as time goes by, even more are abolitionists.

You can also say that third world countries, through technologies, the people are being fed by the lot.

Yet - these problems still exist no matter the breakthrough. So, no, I would not conclude such a thing without a lot more observation.

The day piracy dies, I'm also dead.

I hope not that soon! I hope not that soon! Big Grin

Just kidding. On the contrary, that statement does sound like you have long to live, my friend.

Piracy is unlikely to end, but warez will get scarcer as companies consolidate and push everything into the cloud.
Start collecting as much as possible. Now.

Streaming is likely to go even more to paywalls, but Yootube alternatives are popping up.

Whats really needed is an emphasis on OS hacking, particularly Win, for defeating future DRM type scams.

RX mentioned satellite hacking. Its been many moons since I played with HU cards, and the corps defeated the glitchers there. Have they returned?

What is I noticed is: Anything that the massas want gone, quickly disappears. They really dont care about video and software companies. Small fry in the Grand Game. If they do as planned for the past 60 years, a controlled demolition of the economy (aka Great Reset) they will want the people to be amused and docile via free *****, games, and the latest Hollywood brain numbing psyops. They can use 'piracy' as an excuse to go after any resistance. Like what they already do with planted ***** *****.

Lack of warez has been a small problem, while still a problem, but FOSS is climbing with quality software.

I've always thought that if there's anything that will beat piracy, it's FOSS.

It's time the masses get that in their heads.

What rreally needed is a Pir8 version of Win microkernel. Fully disassembled, hacked, recompiled and distriburted with source and toolchain.

ReactOS looks like its dying on the vine after Putin stopped donations to it. And they refused to use any code that M$ might consider IP. Effectively killing the project. Redmond has concept patents.

FOSS is corruptible, buth thankfully an order of magnitude less than the M$ garbage. It has the advantage/curse of being built on the code/display paradigm, with more emphasis on quality of the former, than ergonomics of the latter. The reverse is true for corporate crap.
Compare vi and notepad.
Emacs and Office.

I remember when a Microsoft representative came to my college to speak.

My friend asked her something about open source software, and she tried to tip-toe and duck the question.

I felt sorry for her, but at the same time, I was laughing my ass off! She never once mentioned open source, and only said that "well, we do stuff for free too."
