When I downloaded a show it heavily depended on having subtitles for the people speaking a foreign language.  Is htere a way to have these subtitles included in my download?  Thank to any who help.

There are a bunch of sites that provide free subtitle downloads. I usually just google the name of the movie / show + subtitles. To make sure you get a subtitle that syncs with the download include the full release name in your search.

Thanks for answering.  Why dont the language translations copy over with the download since they were an original part of the movie?  How do I find the release name?

The release name is usually in the torrent name like say "Spider-Man.Far.from.Home.2019.Spiderman.1080p.BluRay.x264-MkvCag" - if thats the movie you downloaded, then you search the same exact title + subtitles + language, say you want polish subs for your spiderman flick you google "Spider-Man.Far.from.Home.2019.Spiderman.1080p.BluRay.x264-MkvCag subtitles polish" Smile

strum, what's your video player?

You can use subtitles for most video players, but you might want to find out how to do it. For example, VLC can use subtitles if you specify it.

You can manually make a subtitle that defaults to the video clip by making the name of the subtitle the same as the video, except you should still keep the SRT extension for the subtitle.

For example, if you want to use subtitle.srt for a video clip called spiderman2.mp4, you will rename subtitle.srt to spiderman2.srt. That way, spiderman2.mp4 will play the subtitles that the newly-renamed SRT file.

I am just playing the movie on my Roku video player so I can watch it on TV.

I don't know how Roku works, but if it's anything intuitive and feature-rich, it should accommodate for subtitles. Try my suggestion and put it in the same folder the video is.

Come back if it doesn't work, but I think it should.

It would with Kodi.

Use mkvtoolnix. Mux subs into the video file.
After installation or extraction (portable), use mkvtoolnix-gui.exe to do the muxing.

The name of the video file and the name of the subtitle file name should match exactly and they should be co-located.
