The Gaslight Anthem frontman's third solo effort, Local Honey pivots toward the Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad end of the Springs***** spectrum, delivering a mostly stripped-down set of Americana-leaning country-folk-pop songs that favor introspection over arena-ready grandeur. Chalk it up to the uneasy times or having turned 40, Fallon is reckoning with his past while trying to mitigate the opaqueness of the future. He tackles fatherhood on the heartfelt opener "When You're Ready," telling his *****ren "When you're ready to choose someone make sure they love you half as much as me." Follow-up "21 Days" wrestles with the grief and acceptance needed to break a longtime cigarette habit, while the waltzing "Vincent" goes the classic troubadour route by way of a richly detailed #Me Too-era murder ballad. Echoes of Jason Isbell's hard-won wisdom and blue-collar earnestness color "Lonely for You Only" and affirming closer "You Have Stolen My Heart," the latter of which sees Fallon occasionally falling into a lovely falsetto. Alarmingly short by traditional LP standards, the eight-track set's brevity helps to drive home the themes of family, faith, and reconciliation, and the melodies, while bracingly familiar, feel crystallized rather than rote. Local Honey is an inside record that's better-suited for humid mornings and overcast afternoons than the open highway. In looking stridently inward, Fallon has crafted his most homespun and relatable outing to date.

‘The Early Years 79-81’ boxset represents the band’s first two albums, ‘On Through The Night’ (1980) and ‘High ‘N’ Dry’ (1981), and has been prepared in conjunction with singer Joe Elliott who has acted as executive producer on the set. The mastering has been done by the band’s long serving sound engineer Ronan McHugh.

This deluxe set comes with 5-CDs consisting of the original album remastered, B-sides, rarities and re-mix versions, Radio One sessions, Live from Reading and the first ever appearance of an unreleased and newly mixed show from Oxford in 1980. Bigger Love, his seventh album, shows off the emerging subtlety of his musical craft and social messaging. Legend does romantic Sturm und Drang with a light touch. Neil ***** puts it best: “This album is the unheard bridge between Harvest and Comes a Time”. Recorded between June 1974 and January 1975, Homegrown was intended to come out in 1975 before Neil cancelled the release. The album has remained unreleased until now, achieving a legendary status among Neil ***** fans in the process. The album is made up of twelve Neil ***** songs, of which seven are previously unreleased - “Separate Ways,” “Try,” “Mexico,” “Kansas,” We Don’t Smoke It No More,” “Vacancy” and “Florida” (a spoken word narration). Also included are the first recordings of “Love Is A Rose,” “Homegrown,” “White Line, “Little Wing,” and “Star Of Bethlehem” – different versions of which would all later appear on other Neil ***** albums. Neil plays solo on some tracks (guitar, piano and harmonica), and is joined by a band of friends on other tracks, including Levon Helm, Ben Keith, Karl T Himmel, Tim Drummond, Emmylou Harris and Robbie Robertson. Recorded in analog, and mastered from the original master tapes, this long-lost album is a wonderful addition to Neil’s incomparable catalog.
