The goal of this share is to collect the best sources for MST3K episodes that are not officially released on DVD, consistently encode them, and give them consistent names and meta-data. Cropping was carefully performed so the SOL segments weren't over-cropped and the aspect ratio was correctly maintained. The files are all x264 AVC video with AC3 audio and they each will fit on a standard 80minute/700MiB CD-R.

Except for 309, the sources were DVDs of fan made VHSrips and DVRrips originally from the Digital Archive Project (aka DAP). Episode 309 was a fan made S-VHSrip from a non-DAP source. Many thanks for providing these episodes!

Note, other than re-encoding the audio tracks to AC3 128kbps, no audio processing was done. They tend to be louder than the retail DVD tracks though some are closer to the volume of a retail DVD episode.

This second release has a FIXED encode for 309 The Amazing Colossal Man. The first release's version had a glitch at about 1h31m10s that caused video distortion and caused the video to skip ahead several minutes to the movie's end. Now, the v2 encode for 309 does not skip ahead but the brief video distortion still occurs. The S-VHS video quality is much better than the DAP DVD source so this brief distortion is worth it.

Is there any way you could upload the original uncompressed video files with only the post-processing cropping edits?

You know, the master files that you save for your own personal collection before professionally re-encoding them for mass consumption...

Regarding what might get officially released on DVD, we've missed a release cycle for the first time in years. So they're running into a brick wall with getting rights for another 4 movies to put in a box. The best place about what might get released when is here:

Hi TS. I'm about to watch the whole series again, including the KTMA and Non-Retail-DVD Episodes. I'm very picky but I will watch these new encodes over the source DVDs since these look better.

I'm quite sure that the AVC compression and AC3 re-compression did not detract from the AV quality. And the YADIF de-interlace and NLMeans=Ultralight de-noise filters actually *improved* the video quality in the spot checks I did for each encode. The careful cropping was tested on both SOL and movie segments for each film.

BTW, the cropping, filtering, and re-encoding are all applied in one fell swoop with Handbrake. So I don't have an uncompressed version that's been cropped. It's straight from DVD source to final output. With lots of testing in between on sample clips to ensure it looks/sounds good and the crop/aspect are right.

The 14 source DVDs run about 59GB. The AVC/AC3 share is just under 9GB. Since the new encodes look better (from filtering and careful cropping) and are much smaller, I hope the 9GB share from today will be ok.

Wow, this is weird timing. I was in the middle of ripping "The Final 14" from my personal masters to digital. I don't do any extra processing though so I'm looking forward to seeing your versions.

I greatly admire your dedication to preserving MST3K for posterity in the highest possible quality. Rhino and Shout have done a good job but some things have fallen through the cracks with them and I have yet to see that happen in your efforts. Great work!

There's a glitch in 309 The Amazing Colossal Man: at 1:31:09 it pauses briefly, then skips to "The End."

It turns out the glitch is in the source DVD. There's a video distortion as the scene fades but the meta-data then causes a skip forward.

I've remuxed the video_ts folder and done a test encode and it doesn't skip now. The video glitch is still there but the higher quality of the S-VHS capture is worth it IMO compared to the lower quality DAP capture.

I've deleted the torrent and will post a new torrent once I've encoded a new episode 309 and checked the bad spot. The only change will be episode 309. It might take a day or two.
