StartPatch for Wii
#1
I've heard good things about Startpatch, a program for the Wii that can prevent disc updates that can screw up the softmod of the Wii.

If I have 4.3U, do I still need it?

a better option for blocking diagnostic disc checks and updates would be Priiloader. Its brick protection that you can't afford to miss out on. Priiloader also has other hacks that prove to be useful. You should check it out here.

Sorry I didn't explain my intents fully. If I download an import ISO game(i.e. Japanese), or if I buy an import disc (also Japanese), does Priiloader have the ability to boot Japanese games, backup disc or retail?

But still, thanks for the PriiLoader advice.

Priiloader can enable region free gaming from disc and Virtual Console but this might cause system instability. If you put a game in which prompts a disc update, be it NTSC, PAL, NTSC-J, then priiloader will block it without question.

If you are concerned with being able to play games from other regions you should check out this region changing guide. Be aware that this could brick your wii. Also if you have priiloader already installed, following this guide will remove priiloader and you will have to reinstall it.

Alternatively, you can force the correct region on your wii if you use certain USB loaders rather than playing directly from disc. I personally am not one to take risks with playing different region stuff since I am running a wii with bootmii installed as an IOS rather than boot2. If your wii is older and you installed it with boot2 then should you brick your wii, there is a chance recover it (with a little help, unlike mine).

Thanks! You are very resourceful indeed!

EDIT: I think that I'll stick with using StartPatch as my conclusion. Thanks for the candid comments.
